Homemade edible finger paint on paper
Kit James Raj Theivamanoharan’s Flower is a commission for Bev Kirk’s birthday. In this his first work, he combines primary colours to produce the eponymous flower. Believed to be a reaction against the global pandemic, the piece invokes spring, a time of new beginning, of hope, free from alert levels and BoJo incompetence. This profound iconography is at odds with the primitive materials used (sugar, salt, corn starch and water); a deliberate decision that acts in thrilling juxtaposition. Produced with a flurry of fist and finger, Flower is an 'action painting,' taking inspiration from Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning.
There are some that question the legitimacy of the work, alleging the boy’s mother is its true creator, puppeteering her son into forming such brushstrokes. This claim appears to be petty jealousy against a prodigious talent.
Essentially, Kit James Raj Theivamanoharan is a New Master, depicting the Covid Age with unerring skill.
