Week 30: Question Time

 Type of Writing: 20 questions Kit wants answering on the world he's living in.




1.  Why is there a tree in my living room? (And if the outdoors is moving in, will I be getting a swing in my bedroom because I’d like that?)


2.     Why does my dad continue to sing ‘Row Row Row Your Boat’ when I can tell his heart is no longer in it?

3.     Why are we going to meet people outdoors? Don’t they know it’s warmer inside?

4.     Why don’t I sleep in my mum and dad’s room anymore? The time from me waking to getting a hug has been protracted which I don’t appreciate.

5.     Why do my mum and dad only hug me and each other? They seem to like those other people we see. Where are the hugs for them?

6.     Why do my mum and dad constantly pull faces? Is there some kind of medical problem they need to address?

7.     What are those things they look at in their hands? I want one.

8.     I had a lovely bit of salmon the other day: why did it take them six months to realise I might enjoy it?

9.     Why did they take me to that place where they stick a sharp point in your leg? If they hadn’t been kind to me up to that point, I might have done a self-referral to the adoption agency.

10.  Why do they wear a mask in some buildings, but not inside our house? Is this what they call fashion?

11.  Why is it only a few people hold me? I have eyed up a few arms that I like the look of, but it seems to be a no go on that front.

12.  Why don’t mum and dad let me just put my hands in the food? I like the squelch of it.

13.  Why was my dad at home a lot and now he’s not home as much? Some kind of consistency would be nice; I don’t know whether he’s coming or going.

14.  Why does my mum take me to this big pool of water when there’s a perfectly adequate bath at home?

15.  Why do they persist in buying me bath toys? It’s getting to a point where I can barely fit my arse in the water.

16.  Why do they buy me toys when I’m happy enough with some wool to chew on?

17.  I see that man with glasses behind his computer every day. I then see him on a swivel chair with four other people. My mum and dad watch him, but he never says ‘hello’ to me? Why do I see him so much and not my grandparents?

      18.   Why does my dad shout at the screen when there’s a lot of people in yellow kicking a ball?


19.  Why do mum and dad kiss me more than each other? Is their relationship in crisis? 
           
       20. Why does my dad dance like that?

 Day 1 We didn’t mind our last baby was two weeks late. My dad, Harriet’s father-in-law, had just passed and we needed time to process sadness before we could register joy. However, we really didn’t want this baby to be late. If our little boy was born early in the summer, it would give us the opportunity to be a family whilst the school holidays were still in full swing. Also, last time round was a complex situation; in any other context, you don’t want to be waiting weeks and weeks for a child to be born. Harriet’s baby shower had friends guess the name, due date and weight. Unsurprisingly, the latest someone put down was August 17 th , the due date. Week 1: Official Opening

  Firstly, I would like to thank you all for being here today on this happy occasion. Just over two years ago we founded our first business, Theivamanoharan & Son. Despite the teething problems, growing pains and sleepless nights that come with any start-up, we found the venture wholly enjoyable. Therefore, in December of last year, we decided to expand the business. To extend our company profile by adding additional stock to our property portfolio. It is our goal, our ambition, to have the name Theivamanoharan as recognisable as Adidas, Marks and Spencer and Disney . For this to happen, we must develop our brand, spread the word, so one day Theivamanoharan will become a household name – like Dettol. This new asset you see before you was nine months in the making. Week 52: The Party

  A corps of caterers comprising of Harriet, her mother and mother-in law made their way to the beach hut. On buffet tables, ambrosian cup cakes crowded against homemade sausage rolls to create a sweet-savory symphony for the tastebuds. In the hut a bar was set up and stocked with exorbitant pop, sparkling elderflower being just one refreshment. Jostling alongside were bottles of Sainsbury’s finest Taste The Difference Prosecco. By eleven o’clock the guests had arrived. Guests that have come from the four corners of the globe. Guests from Watford, guests from Hemel Hempstead, guests from Hitchin, guests from Swanage. All beautified in their best beachwear to drink, to be merry. A grey cloud threatens the sky, but the party will not be cowed. The sky is unquestionably dulled by nature’s pall but the scene below remains colourful. The conversation flows like The Thames, snaking from person to person, interconnecting each and every one.
