Week 41: Press Release

Type of Writing: Press Release on Kit's climbing screenplay being bought by a movie studio.

‘Standing Tall’ green-lit with sequel planned.

Following a feeding frenzy, 20th Century are proud to announce that they own the distribution rights to ‘Standing Tall,’ screenplay by Ryan Theivamanoharan.

Last week the pitch for the movie went viral, attracting thirty likes and a comment. This noise reached the ears of Rachael McAdams and Dev Patel who immediately signed up to the picture, despite no script being made available.

With these stars on board to play the mother and father (Harriet and Ryan Theivamanoharan), 20th Century pledged to fund the picture along with a sequel.

Screenwriter, Ryan Theivamanoharan, said: ‘It’s been quite the whirlwind. I knew something was stirring when I got the fifth like, but as soon as I got to thirty I appreciated something quite remarkable was happening.’

Director, Dexter Fletcher, (Eddie The Eagle, Sunshine On Leith and Rocketman) has now joined the production, with shooting expected to start in 2022.

Fletcher said, ‘When I saw the pitch online, I knew I wanted to be part of this project. Eddie The Eagle was an underdog story and Rocketman was an addiction one, so transposing Ryan’s script into the visual medium of cinema plays to my strengths. I believe audiences will love seeing Kit overcome his thumb addiction to stand tall.”

It is forecast that the sequel, Standing Tall: Long Way Up, will begin filming in 2024 with the same cast and crew. The picture will follow Kit as he overcomes a fear of heights to beat the stairs and reach the landing. Theivamanoharan adds, ‘It will be Hitchcock’s Vertigo meets Baby’s Day Out. A movie mix that guarantees thrills and chills.’

Kit, the lead baby character, is yet to be cast. Audition tapes can be submitted online through 20th Century Studios website. The young actor must be 8-10 months in age, of mixed extraction and be able to convey panic, glee and trapped wind.
