Week 46: Dunsto
Forget Glasto,
this weekend was all about Dunsto.
Undeniably, Arctic
Monkeys, Guns & Roses and Elton John are top headliners, but listen to this
for a bill: Madonna, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston and ABBA. That’s right: Whitney
and ABBA. Reports of Houston’s death appear to greatly exaggerated, and despite
the ABBA avatars in London wowing audiences, there is nothing quite like seeing
the band up close. Dunstable’s ‘Back to the 80’s’ reincarnated the dead and
remarried those whom had long filed for divorce.
Fans from far and
wide, South Dunstable to Central Dunstable, flocked to see a great line-up of
music. And where there’s a festival, there’s a celebrity – this was no
different. Like the Britney Spears rumours at Glastonbury, whispers abounded
that Faye Tozer would make an appearance. The Steps star was born in
Dunstable, making the hearsay sound reasonable. This gossip did not
materialise, however another guest appearance gave the weekend its stardust.
Jude Theivamanoharan,
the loudest baby in Britain, made a surprise visit. Jude became the voice of
Bedfordshire when he was born in August last year. His screams soon went viral
on his family Whatsapp group, scoring tens of views. From there, he has amused
and bemused patrons of local cafes and shops with his full-throated cries.
Arriving with his
family entourage, Jude soon settled into the music. Sensitively he kept his
clamour in check, aware that he had it in him to drown out the amps and spoil
the day for revelers. As it was, he behaved immaculately, smiling at songs, delighting
in dancing.
Aware of his
celebrity, Jude accepted the press intrusion of the Dunstable Council Facebook
page where a video was uploaded of him dancing with his mum and dad. As things
stand, the picture has received two likes with a chance that three could make
it the most liked post in Dunstable Council’s Facebook history.
The Council will
surely be hoping that Jude will appear next year. Sources tell us this could
involve a lucrative pay offer, with the council wanting to tap into Jude’s
online profile (his mum and dad have 100 followers combined).
With Jude on board
there’s every chance Dunsto can exceed the numbers of Glasto, leaving Worthy
Farm feeling very fallow indeed.
